National Geographic GeoChallenge:

The Mott Foundation and National Geographic have teamed up on #GeoChallenge.  The National Geographic GeoChallenge is a free opportunity to infuse powerful and engaging content in afterschool programs. The GeoChallenge is a set of activities leading to submission of a creative solution in a national competition. If afterschool programs submit full applications by January 15th, they will get feedback from experts and explorers, and be eligible to compete in regional competitions and win cash prizes.  Learn more at nationalgeographic.org/education.

Long Time Coming Film

A new film tells the story of one of the first integrated Little League baseball games in 1955 through the eyes of the surviving players along with notables such as baseball stars Hank Aaron and Cal Ripken, Jr., and Ambassador Andrew Young. An afterschool organization attended the film’s NYC premiere and their feedback encouraged producers to reach out to the WYAA to promote the project. A StoryCorps project was created as an added teaching component. It invites viewers to interview an elder about their life experiences and add their family’s story to the collective history of civil rights and sports. For more information, see the film’s website at www.longtimecoming.film or contact Lise King, liseking@gmail.com.
